Bliss ! :)

I ordered this mini-pool via e-bay - originally for the dog enclosure at the shelter. But impatient as I am I had to try it out immediately and for now it´s my private pool :)

A cat died in my arms today

I was driving to my parents house this afternoon when I spotted a beautiful tabby cat, lying on the road. Its tail was moving and so I stopped immediately, picked it up and had a look.
It showed no obvious injuries, but with a bit of experience it was plain to see that it was hurt, highly probably beyond all hope.
I carried it to the house beside the road cause I presumed its owners lived there, which turned out to be right. On the way the cat lost control over its bladder, went still and was gone. I can only hope it didn´t have to suffer for long.
I guess I can be glad that it died so soon. I´m able to "finish off" birds and rodents when they´re in pain, but not a cat. A trip to the vet would probably only have prolonged its distress.

I presume it was an accident, something that will just continue to happen, probably not even due to a fault of the driver who hit the cat.
BUT what I will never understand is, that the he/she, and others passing by in their cars, did not even bother to stop to have a look.
With luck it could have "only" been a broken limb.
But they left it lying there, in the middle of the road, to be hit by the next car.

So much for our so-called civilized society, always quick to criticize other cultures...

Ban comic sans

A Site for the font-a-holics amongst us :
http://bancomicsans.com/home.html :)

I used to like this font (embarassing proof on my website) but due to it´s use everywhere and for everything it now really annoys me whenever I see it.

My favorite Font site: http://www.1001fonts.com/

Throwaway-society at it´s best/worst...

I am often surprised at what people tend to throw away in this country.
In the last years I´ve "disovered" various cages, terrariums (*), various pieces of furniture, once even an aviary.

(*) Hmm...Leo says this ist the correct expression, but I´ve never heard it while working at the herp department at the zoo, Tanks is the word that comes to my mind?

This ist my newest trove:

A bike-trailer, used but in working order, apart from a hole in the canvas at the bottom.
Axis, wheels etc. - all the important bits are ok, and I hope I can fix the hole with wire-mesh and/or truck tarpaulin.
If it works I won´t use it for children but it should be fine for smaller dogs (like Jack :) ) and shopping. These trailers usually sell for at least 60 Euro on ebay when they´re used, when they´re new they cost over a hundred Euro.

A cupboard I once found at the bulky refuse, standing by the road. Almost new, nothing broken, still with the sale-sticker attached:

It now contains my towels.

I´ve been thinking about our "materially-orientated-society" a lot and I´ve come to the conclusion that I don´t like it´s concepts at all.
Starting from the assumption that money makes you happier up to the consequences it´s got for our environment.
But I´ll spare you :).
Just got the Idea of photographing every second-hand piece in my household, but that would be a rather time-consuming task :).
